First Solar Expands Operations with New Ohio Distribution Center

First Solar has announced the acquisition of a 1.2 million-square-foot facility in Troy Township, Ohio, formerly known as Peloton Output Park, which will be repurposed to become the company’s new distribution center.

The center will play a crucial role in serving First Solar’s three Ohio manufacturing facilities, which collectively achieved a combined annual nameplate capacity of approximately 6 GW by the end of 2023. Mike Koralewski, the Chief Supply Chain Officer of First Solar, expressed that as the company prepares to expand its Ohio capacity by almost a gigawatt this year, the need for the company’s logistics and distribution capabilities to scale in line with manufacturing growth becomes apparent.

Koralewski noted, “We intend to use this facility to ensure the efficient and timely shipping of modules to our customers, repurposing it into a dedicated distribution hub for the largest solar manufacturing footprint in the Western Hemisphere. We expect that this approach will allow us to streamline logistics operations, reduce operating costs, and contribute to our cost reduction roadmap.”

This strategic move aligns with First Solar’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions and signifies a significant step in strengthening its operational capabilities. The acquisition of the facility in Ohio reflects the company’s focus on enhancing its logistical infrastructure to support its expansion plans and increasing customer demand for solar modules.
