European Commodity Clearing (ECC) has announced its plans to launch clearing services in the power intraday continuous and day ahead markets in Slovenia by April 2024. This initiative, contingent on regulatory approval, will be conducted in collaboration with the local exchange, BSP Energy Exchange LLC (BSP).
This expansion will further bolster ECC’s position, as it will now provide power spot clearing services in 16 European countries. The CSEE power markets have emerged as a critical region for the wider EEX Group, facilitating both long- and short-term power trading. Since 2017, EEX Group has been actively involved in offering power derivatives, spot products, and related clearing services in these markets. ECC currently connects 29 clearing members as part of its overarching efforts.
As a central clearing house specializing in energy and commodity products, ECC undertakes the counterparty risk and ensures the physical and financial settlement of transactions. Notably, the organization’s services offer security and cross-margining benefits for its valuable clientele.
Operating under the umbrella of EEX Group, ECC serves as the clearing provider for EEX, EEX Asia, and EPEX SPOT, in addition to partner exchanges such as HUPX, HUDEX, NOREXECO, SEEPEX, and SEMOpx.
