Meta recently unveiled its plans to power its Mesa data center with renewable energy through a groundbreaking collaboration with Ørsted and the Salt River Project (SRP). This innovative partnership will see Meta’s data center supported by solar energy from the Eleven Mile Solar Center, an impressive 300 MW solar farm and battery energy storage system (BESS) under construction in Pinal County, Arizona.
The colossal scale of this project is not to be overlooked, as it is set to become the largest solar-plus-battery venture on SRP’s power grid once operational next year. Furthermore, the additional renewable energy not utilized by Meta will be made available to SRP’s broader customer base, marking a significant step towards greater sustainability and environmental responsibility.
In addition to this pivotal collaboration, Meta will also benefit from the 100 MW West Line Solar Facility and a portion of solar energy from the upcoming 200 MW Brittlebush Solar Facility. These partnerships underscore Meta’s commitment to sourcing renewable energy and integrating it into their operations, demonstrating a proactive approach to reducing their carbon footprint and minimizing environmental impact.

This sentiment was echoed by SRP’s Bobby Olsen, who emphasized the strategic importance of partnerships with customers like Meta and renewable energy developers like Ørsted as integral to SRP’s decarbonization goals.
