Ameresco and Sunel Group have kicked off a significant solar PV park project portfolio construction in the UK on behalf of Sonnedix. This ambitious initiative involves the development of five ground-mounted solar PV parks across England with the goal of generating approximately 300,000 MWh of renewable electricity annually. The key parks include Cowley Complex, Gonerby Solar, Winkburn Solar Farm, Gammaton Solar Farm, and Lawns Solar Farm.
Sonnedix, as the owner of the portfolio, has enlisted Ameresco Sunel Energy, a joint venture between Ameresco and Sunel, as the design build partner. Notably, the portfolio is fully contracted under the UK government’s Contracts for Difference scheme, which secures a guaranteed price for electricity via 15-year contracts with the low carbon contracts company.
Post the completion of construction, the collective parks are expected to generate enough clean energy to power 85,000 UK homes and mitigate 58,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually, as per Ameresco’s projections. The construction is projected for completion by the early months of 2025, marking a significant milestone in the UK’s renewable energy landscape.
The monumental endeavor reflects the commitment of Ameresco, Sunel Group, and Sonnedix to drive the energy transition forward. Through their partnership, they are poised to accomplish substantial contributions to the UK’s clean energy goals, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and collective action in the pursuit of a sustainable future.
