Minnesota Power, a leading utility company, is taking remarkable strides towards its EnergyForward vision of achieving 100% carbon-free energy. In line with this commitment, the company has recently issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for up to 300 MW of regional solar energy, with plans for the projects to come online by 2027.
Following the approval of Minnesota Power’s 2021 Integrated Resource Plan by the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission, this RFP will play a vital role in expanding Minnesota Power’s solar portfolio, potentially increasing it tenfold. The company aims to leverage cost-effective solar resources within its service territory that have direct interconnections to its transmission system.
Projects located in communities where the company’s decarbonization plans impact existing generation resources will receive preference in the selection process. Minnesota Power, dedicated to maximizing the positive regional economic impact of solar development, will prioritize diverse bidders, union labor usage, local labor engagement for both construction and permanent staffing, and the creation of apprenticeship programs.
In seeking viable power supply solutions to meet the growing demand for solar energy, Minnesota Power will evaluate various options, including build-own-transfer projects, power purchase agreements, and self-build projects.
Interested parties are invited to submit proposals until January 5, 2024. To access further information or submit a proposal, please click here.
