AutoGrid, a leading energy technology company, has further strengthened its partnership with Puget Sound Energy (PSE), the largest utility in Washington state. This collaboration aims to develop a robust virtual power plant (VPP) solution utilizing the capabilities of the AutoGrid Flex platform.
In 2021, PSE and AutoGrid embarked on their joint venture to establish a centralized application for enrolling, dispatching, and evaluating the performance of individual and combined programs within PSE’s extensive portfolio. Building upon this successful foundation, the partnership is now expanding to include aggregation monitoring, reporting, and customer management for all participating programs. By doing so, PSE can enhance grid reliability while advancing its vital goals of decarbonization.
The transition towards a cleaner energy future brings complexity in managing the energy grid effectively. Balancing the integration of renewable sources while maintaining grid reliability and stability under varying conditions is crucial.
AutoGrid Flex, which currently manages more than 8 GW of virtual power plants across nine countries, provides advanced demand response and distributed energy resource (DER) management capabilities. Through this platform and its network of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partners and aggregators, PSE will have the capacity to dispatch optimal resources to mitigate peak energy demand in both summer and winter seasons.
PSE’s VPP initiative seeks to reduce costs while ensuring reliable energy supply for its extensive customer base of over 1 million residential and business customers. Additionally, this VPP solution empowers participating customers to receive monetary incentives for sharing their assets with the grid or curtail usage, enabling PSE to efficiently manage the growing electricity demand.
The expanded partnership between AutoGrid and Puget Sound Energy sets the stage for a groundbreaking virtual power plant solution that will contribute to a cleaner, more reliable, and economically sustainable energy grid. This collaboration exemplifies the potential unleashed when utilities and innovative technology providers unite in pursuit of a greener future.
