In a powerful display of youth engagement and democratic participation, the European Youth Event 2023 (EYE2023) has opened doors for young people to discuss the ideas that gained significant support during the event. Today, in a public hearing, MEPs will join forces with young individuals to explore the “Youth Ideas Report” and address the concerns of young voters leading up to the 2024 European Elections. This event represents a key milestone in fostering dialogue between decision-makers and the vibrant voices of the future.
EYE2023’s Youth Ideas Report:
The centerpiece of this event is the Youth Ideas Report, an impactful compilation of the ideas shared by 8,500 young participants from across Europe during the inspiring EYE2023 event held in Strasbourg on June 9-10. Published in 24 languages, the report centers on the 15 most prominent ideas encompassing crucial topics such as addressing disinformation, enhancing traineeships, prioritizing reproductive and sexual health education, combatting climate change, tackling food waste, and much more. This report represents a powerful testament to the pressing concerns that young people wish to address for a better Europe.
The Format and Agenda:
The public hearing will commence with an opening speech by EP President Roberta Metsola, highlighting the significance of youth perspectives and the need to incorporate them into the decision-making process. Following the speech, ten young “EYEdea boosters,” carefully selected through an open call from European countries, will present and deliberate on the Youth Ideas Report in detail alongside MEPs. This discussion aims to shed light on the aspirations and apprehensions of the youth as Europe stands on the cusp of the 2024 elections.
In the afternoon, MEPs, youth organizations, representatives from other EU institutions, and international bodies will assemble in ten workshops, each dedicated to one idea from the report. These workshops will foster dialogue, exchange ideas, and contemplate strategies for developing and promoting these crucial issues. By pooling their expertise and involving diverse stakeholders, this collaborative approach ensures the holistic exploration of every idea and the potential for meaningful change.
