Longroad Energy, a reputable renewable energy developer, owner, and operator based in the United States, has recently announced the successful closure of financing and the initiation of construction for Sun Streams 4. This groundbreaking project boasts a capacity of 377 MW DC solar photovoltaic (PV) and an accompanying 1,200 MWh storage system, making it Longroad’s most ambitious solar and storage venture to date. Situated in Maricopa County, Arizona, Sun Streams 4 is the third project within Longroad’s prominent Sun Streams complex. Commercial operations are anticipated to commence by mid-2025.

With a keen eye toward economic growth and sustainability, Sun Streams 4 is expected to provide employment opportunities for over 200 individuals during the construction phase. McCarthy Building Companies, a renowned engineering, procurement, and construction contractor, has been entrusted with the project’s realization.

The solar energy generated by Sun Streams 4, enough to power approximately 120,000 households, will be acquired through a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Arizona Public Service (APS). As Arizona experiences a surge in energy demand during the scorching summer months, this project will play a pivotal role in bolstering the state’s power supply and enhancing system reliability.

To facilitate the construction, Nextracker has been chosen to provide trackers for the project, while Sungrow will supply the essential solar inverters. Operationally, NovaSource Power Services, in collaboration with Longroad Energy Services, one of Longroad’s affiliates, will offer comprehensive maintenance and support services.

The battery energy storage system for Sun Streams 4 will be delivered by Powin, a prominent U.S.-based energy storage platform provider. The system will consist of SMA inverters and AESC cells, seamlessly integrated into Powin’s Modular and Scalable Centipede platform. Longroad, in coordination with Powin and NovaSource Power Services, will assume responsibility for long-term operations and maintenance.

This essential project is part of the Sun Streams portfolio, which Longroad Energy acquired earlier in 2021 from First Solar, a renowned industry player.
