Del-Co Water, a prominent water utility company in Ohio, has teamed up with solar developer D3Energy and energy management firm MSI Utilities to embark on a groundbreaking venture – Ohio’s first floating solar project. This innovative initiative aims to harness the benefits of solar energy without compromising valuable land resources that may be earmarked for future expansion.
What sets this project apart is not only the utilization of floating solar technology, but also its multifaceted approach. By integrating rooftop and carport installations, the project maximizes energy output while taking advantage of different locations. The selected floating system for this project is the Hydrelio system developed by Ciel & Terre – a globally recognized company that has already deployed 1.5 GW of power worldwide.
Once completed, the project plans to offset nearly 50% of Del-Co Water’s electricity consumption at its water plant, leading to substantial cost savings. To ensure effective ownership and operation of the system, D3Energy has partnered with Gardner Capital, a solar investor boasting ownership of over 100 MW of solar power.
Construction is scheduled to commence next month, with materials already on-site, and the project aims to achieve full grid connection by late spring 2024. This exciting development brings Ohio one step closer to a sustainable and renewable energy future.
