DSD Completes 6.5 MW Solar Portfolio with Caesars Entertainment

DSD Renewables, a prominent player in the renewable energy sector, has successfully concluded the development of a 6.5 MW solar portfolio for Caesars Entertainment, the renowned gaming company, across its Atlantic City destinations. The project, consisting of four canopies, is set to produce an estimated 8.29 MWh of energy annually, further reinforcing the commitment of both DSD and Caesars Entertainment towards sustainable energy solutions.

With an additional canopy under development and scheduled for completion in 2024, the solar portfolio’s capacity is expected to increase to 7.4 MW, greatly enhancing the environmental impact of these installations.

Caesars Entertainment, as one of the largest customers of Atlantic City Electric, aims to offset approximately 6% of its energy requirements for the resort properties in the area through these solar projects. This endeavor not only lightens the energy load on the local utility but also fosters the availability of energy resources for other customers.

The completed solar projects encompass various sites within the Caesars Atlantic City properties. They include 1.7 MW and 886 kW solar garage canopies at Caesars Atlantic City, along with installations at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City. Harrah’s self-park garage now boasts a 1.9 MW solar canopy, while the valet garage features a 1.9 MW canopy. The effort also encompasses a 913 kW solar rooftop system at Harrah’s Waterfront Conference Center, which is set to be installed in early 2024.

Apart from the obvious environmental benefits, these solar structures offer additional advantages. The canopies not only provide shaded parking spaces for staff and customers but also help reduce snow removal costs. Meanwhile, the rooftop system is designed to prolong the lifespan of the building’s roof and minimize cooling needs by limiting UV exposure.

The unique structural layouts, building heights, and the proximity of the project sites to the coast presented an added level of complexity to this endeavor. DSD’s in-house canopy team rose to the challenge by creating custom engineering designs that accommodated increased wind load and risk factors. These designs feature structural connections that elevate and protect the steel and electrical systems from potential storm damage.

In addition to serving as the developer and financier, DSD will also assume the role of a long-term owner and operator for these solar installations.

The completion of this 6.5 MW solar portfolio by DSD Renewables in collaboration with Caesars Entertainment marks a significant milestone in the pursuit of clean, renewable energy sources. It underscores the commitment of both organizations towards sustainability and positions them as leaders in the transition towards a greener future.
