If all operators were to rely solely on a single client, the network would be prone to outages and disruptions caused by potential bugs. This is where Ethereum’s decentralized approach shines.
Ethereum Versus Bitcoin Full Node Distribution:
As of September 25, Ethereum showcased an impressive range of clients, including Geth, Besu, Erigon, and Nethermind. Among these options, Geth emerged as the preferred choice of over half (55.35%) of all Ethereum full node operators. Additionally, Nethermind and Erigon held market shares of 23.48% and 12.03%, respectively. These numbers indicate a healthy level of client diversity within the Ethereum ecosystem, which enhances the network’s resilience and security.
Comparatively, Bitcoin’s full node operators predominantly rely on Bitcoin Core, displaying a more centralized approach. With 16,681 nodes globally, Bitcoin’s full node distribution demonstrates a lack of significant concentration in any particular country. No single country accounts for more than 10% of Bitcoin’s full nodes.
