Enel North America, a prominent renewable energy operator, has recently entered into a power purchase agreement with BXP, the largest publicly traded developer, owner, and manager of premier workplaces in the United States. The agreement entails the procurement of a 21-megawatt (MW) portion of the Estonian solar project, currently under construction in Delta County, Texas.
The partnership between Enel and BXP aims to empower companies with a range of tools for efficient energy management and reducing carbon footprint. This includes clean power contracts as well as load-side solutions like demand response. Paolo Romanacci, the Head of Enel Green Power North America, expressed enthusiasm for expanding their relationship with BXP. In doing so, they aim to advance sustainability efforts while bolstering clean energy production in ERCOT, a grid increasingly dependent on solar power and battery storage.
This agreement builds upon a longstanding partnership between Enel and BXP, focusing on advanced energy solutions such as demand response and utility bill management. Over the years, Enel has been managing approximately 10,000 utility bills annually for BXP across 939 active accounts, facilitating over $6 million in demand response revenue since 2011.
The Estonian solar + storage project is currently under construction and is expected to commence operations in late 2024. The facility will comprise a 202 MW solar plant paired with a 104 MW battery energy storage system. Once operational, the project is projected to generate approximately 499 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean electricity annually, equivalent to supplying over 46,000 households in the United States.
Enel holds a prominent position as one of the largest renewable energy operators in Texas, boasting a substantial portfolio of 3.3 gigawatts (GW) of installed wind and solar capacity. Additionally, they support the ERCOT grid with 607 MW/911 MWh of installed battery storage capacity. Presently, Enel has approximately 1.8 GW of solar and 736 MW/1,103 MWh of utility-scale storage capacity under construction in Texas. Furthermore, Enel manages around 200 MW of demand response capacity, provides retail electricity supply, and has successfully deployed over 12,400 electric vehicle charging stations throughout the state.
