DSD Renewables (DSD), a leading developer and owner of renewable energy resources, has recently acquired a nine-project, 15-MW community solar portfolio in Minnesota from New Energy Equity. This strategic acquisition marks an important milestone for DSD as it continues to contribute to the state’s ambitious goal of transitioning to 100% clean energy usage by 2040.
The newly acquired 100% residential-offtake portfolio is estimated to generate over 20,000 total MWh annually, supplying power to approximately 900 subscribers. This expansion builds upon DSD’s existing presence in Minnesota, following their acquisition of an 11.3-MW community solar portfolio last year.
The locations selected for the ground-mounted panels include Belle Plaine, Clear Lake, Howard Lake, Mankato, Mazeppa, Saint Cloud, Sauk Rapids, and Winsted. Notably, the site in Winsted will serve as an agrivoltaic project, combining solar panels with farmland to optimize land use. This innovative approach not only promotes sustainability for farmers but also offers crop protection from adverse weather conditions, thanks to the shade provided by the panels.
Construction has already commenced on four projects, with the remaining five slated to begin by the end of 2023. The entire portfolio is expected to reach completion by 2024. Customer acquisition and subscriptions for these community solar projects will be managed by Arcadia Power.
DSD’s commitment to expanding their community solar portfolio in Minnesota demonstrates their dedication to fostering renewable energy adoption and supporting local communities. As the state continues to pave the way for community solar initiatives, DSD’s latest projects are poised to make a significant impact in advancing Minnesota’s clean energy goals.
