Unreal Engine, the renowned development framework for interactive 2D and 3D content by Epic Games, has recently announced the integration of LUKSO’s mainnet and standards into their enhanced Blockchain integration plugin. This development, revealed through a September 19 tweet, allows users to directly interact with universal profiles and flexible non-fungible tokens (NFTs) from various games. With this integration, LUKSO brings interoperable and verified digital identities to the Unreal Engine platform, empowering users with greater control over their online avatars and digital assets.
The blockchain integration plugin offered by Unreal Engine serves as a set of tools and libraries that enable game developers to seamlessly incorporate blockchain functionality into their games. By leveraging the plugin, developers can communicate with smart contracts programmed using Solidity, the language used in Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible contracts, including LUKSO. Furthermore, the plugin facilitates the creation, transfer, and utilization of NFTs as a gateway for exploration. It also provides the opportunity to integrate play-to-earn (P2E) features, enhancing the gaming experience.
In response to this exciting partnership, the native token of the LUKSO blockchain, LYX, has remained stable but firm. Like the broader crypto market, LYX is recovering from sharp losses experienced in mid-August. As of September 19, LYX is trading at $5.56, marking a 43% decline from its July peaks when it was listed on the popular cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin.
While the Unreal Engine blockchain integration tool initially supported Ethereum exclusively, subsequent updates have introduced compatibility with other blockchain protocols and layer-2 solutions. These updates have seen Epic Games integrate zero knowledge rollups, Immutable X, and Optimism, aiming to scale the Ethereum network while reducing transaction costs. Prior to these additions, the plugin already supported the ERC-20 and ERC-1155 standards.
In an interesting move, Epic Games and Unreal Engine have decided to incorporate LUKSO functionalities ahead of Solana, even though the latter boasts high scalability and lower fees. This decision may be attributed to the fact that LUKSO’s co-founder, Fabian Vogelsteller, is the visionary behind the ERC-20 standard that underpins numerous tokens, including UNI from Uniswap and MKR from Maker. Vogelsteller’s significant contributions to the early days of Ethereum have made LUKSO an appealing addition to the Unreal Engine platform.
Looking to the future, the Unreal Engine blockchain integration plugin has plans to include support for OpenSea and Bitcoin in upcoming versions, further expanding the possibilities for developers and users alike.
