Engie Energy Marketing, a renowned developer and owner of renewable power capacity, has partnered with Microsoft to provide renewable energy to cover the consumption of select Microsoft data centers in Texas. This collaboration, leveraging existing renewable energy contracts, is set to accelerate Microsoft’s mission of transitioning to 100% carbon-free energy on an hourly basis by 2030.
Through a tailored agreement, Microsoft, known as one of the world’s largest purchasers of renewable energy, will now have the ability to align its data center load in ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) with clean power. Engie will source this energy from its diverse portfolio of wind, solar, and battery projects throughout Texas.
Microsoft stands out as an industry frontrunner with its ambitious 100/100/0 goal, which aims to have 100% of electricity consumption matched by carbon-free energy purchases, 100% of the time, by 2030. With this new partnership in Texas, Engie directly supports Microsoft’s objective to drive grid decarbonization.
Engie’s unique position in the market allows them to effectively contribute to Microsoft’s vision. From building and operating renewable energy generation and storage assets to leveraging their global energy management activities for power sourcing, Engie offers an integrated approach that aligns with Microsoft’s sustainability goals.
As Engie and Microsoft join forces to drive the adoption of renewable energy, this partnership not only highlights their shared commitment to sustainability but also showcases the potential for businesses to make a substantial impact in addressing climate change.
