Longroad Energy, a renowned renewable energy developer, owner, and operator, has recently announced its agreement to procure an additional 2 GW of advanced thin film solar modules from First Solar Inc. This procurement order builds upon an existing 3.7-GW framework agreement between the two companies and solidifies Longroad Energy’s total procurement of First Solar thin film modules to approximately 8 GW since 2017. The delivery for the solar energy modules is expected to take place between 2027 and 2029.
First Solar, known for its responsibly produced, advanced thin film photovoltaic (PV) modules, sets industry benchmarks for quality, durability, reliability, design, and environmental performance. The company takes great pride in being the first PV manufacturer to have its product included in the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) global registry for sustainable electronics.
Furthermore, First Solar is a proud member of the Responsible Business Alliance, the world’s largest industry coalition dedicated to promoting the rights and well-being of workers and communities within the global supply chain. Interestingly, First Solar is believed to be the first among the world’s largest solar manufacturers to have conducted third-party social audits across its operational global manufacturing footprint.
First Solar’s strategic manufacturing expansion plan has been a significant contributor to its success in the industry. With a global operational nameplate capacity of 13 GW today, thanks to its continuous growth from approximately 6 GW in 2020, the company expects further expansion to reach an impressive 25 GW of global nameplate capacity by 2026.
On the other hand, Longroad Energy boasts an impressive track record with its development or acquisition of 4.3 GW of renewable energy projects across the United States. In order to support the completion of its portfolio, the company has raised a remarkable $10 billion of equity, debt, and tax equity. At present, Longroad Energy owns and operates over 2.4 GW of wind, solar, and storage projects, with additional projects currently under construction. Moreover, the company manages a total of 4.0 GW on behalf of both Longroad and third parties.
The partnership between Longroad Energy and First Solar not only solidifies their commitment to a sustainable future but also further strengthens the renewable energy sector. The collaborative effort will ensure the availability of advanced thin film solar modules while providing valuable solutions to meet the ever-growing energy demands.
