Mountain Regional Water Special Service District, a prominent water utility district in the Snyderville Basin area of Park City, Utah, has recently awarded Ameresco Inc., a leading cleantech integrator specializing in energy efficiency and renewable energy, a coveted contract to design and install a floating solar photovoltaic (PV) array site. This groundbreaking initiative sets the stage for a new era of sustainable energy solutions in the region.
The district’s proactive approach in exploring renewable energy alternatives was further complemented by a generous $400,000 grant from Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program, which specifically caters to the district’s Signal Hill Water Treatment Plant. Empowered by this partnership, the district will own the array, strategically placed on the treatment plant’s holding pond, enabling it to harness solar power and efficiently operate the water treatment facility.
With Ameresco at the helm, the project design entails the deployment of a cutting-edge 589.7 KW DC capacity floating solar array. Seamlessly integrated with the Rocky Mountain Power utility, the system will directly supply electricity to the treatment plant while generating clean, renewable energy.
Ascending above similar commendable community-based renewable energy initiatives, Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program recognized the Mountain Regional Water Service District as one of twelve recipients of the prestigious renewable energy projects awarded in 2023. This opt-in program places the power of renewable energy in the hands of Rocky Mountain Power customers, enabling them to choose a sustainable future for their energy consumption. Since its inception in 2006, Blue Sky’s devoted 56,000 participants have played a pivotal role in funding over 200 community-based renewable energy projects, spanning the states of Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. These diverse projects encompass solar, wind, geothermal, and various other renewable energy sources.
Upon completion, this progressive endeavor is projected to offset an exceptional 92% of energy consumed from the conventional grid, leading to an impressive 80% reduction in the district’s energy costs. Furthermore, the floating solar array system is expected to contribute greatly to the local power supply, generating an estimated 887,712 KWh of solar energy annually.
The construction of this transformative project is scheduled to commence in June 2024, with a targeted completion date of September 2024.
