Standard Solar Expands Community Solar Portfolio with Maryland Acquisition

Maryland-based Standard Solar, a leading developer, funder, owner, and operator of commercial and community solar energy assets, has recently acquired a significant community solar project in Forestville, Maryland. The project, formerly owned by New Columbia Solar, is another stepping stone towards Maryland’s ambitious goal of generating 50% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.

Located at FCP’s Holly Spring Meadows apartment community, the newly acquired solar arrays consist of an 800-kW carport array and a 921-kW rooftop array. Alongside 24 other projects overseen by Standard Solar in the state, this acquisition will contribute to the fulfillment of Maryland’s Renewable Portfolio Standard.

The solar arrays at Holly Spring Meadows, designed to power a 224-apartment unit community, are projected to generate an impressive 2,120 MWh of clean energy annually. This substantial amount of electricity produced is equivalent to powering nearly 300 homes for an entire year. Remarkably, approximately 50% of the energy generated will be allocated to low- to moderate-income households, highlighting Standard Solar’s commitment to making renewable energy accessible to all.

The Holly Spring Meadows community solar project serves as a remarkable example of solar energy’s potential to make a tangible difference. By offering the opportunity for individuals to subscribe to a shared solar array, this innovative project provides affordable energy access to those who may not have suitable rooftops or the necessary resources for individual solar panel installations.

The successful completion and operation of the Holly Spring Meadows project represent a notable achievement for Standard Solar. Subscriptions for the community solar initiative are now being expertly managed by Arcadia, ensuring seamless access for participants.

Standard Solar’s continued dedication to expanding Maryland’s renewable energy footprint not only strengthens community engagement but also paves the way for the state to achieve its clean energy goals. With acquisitions such as this, Standard Solar is propelling the transition towards a sustainable, low-carbon future.
