Canadian Solar Factory in Texas Secures Major Module Supply Agreement

Canadian Solar Inc., a leading solar module manufacturer, has announced a significant milestone in its partnership with EDF Renewables North America. The two companies have signed a multi-year module supply agreement, which will see Canadian Solar deliver up to 7 GW of high-efficiency N-type TOPCon solar modules. These modules will be produced at Canadian Solar’s state-of-the-art factory in Mesquite, Texas.

The agreement cements Canadian Solar’s position as a trusted supplier of solar modules for EDF Renewables, supporting their project pipeline in the United States from 2024 to 2030. The N-type TOPCon solar modules boast impressive features, including high conversion efficiencies of up to 22.5%, a low temperature coefficient of -0.30%/degrees C, low light-induced degradation (LID), and enhanced bifaciality compared to Mono-PERC modules. These advanced characteristics result in increased energy production, making these modules highly desirable for solar projects.

In July 2023, Canadian Solar made a significant investment of over $250 million in its new solar photovoltaic module factory in Mesquite, Texas. This state-of-the-art facility, once fully operational, will have an annual output capacity of 5 GW and is expected to create around 1,500 skilled jobs. Production at the factory is set to commence in the fourth quarter of 2023.

The partnership between Canadian Solar and EDF Renewables represents a significant step forward for the solar industry in the United States. By employing high-efficiency solar modules manufactured domestically, the companies are contributing to the growth of clean energy and the creation of skilled jobs within the country.
