Avangrid, an esteemed sustainable energy company from Connecticut and a part of the Iberdrola Group, is proud to announce the commencement of construction on True North, a groundbreaking 240 MW solar farm located in Falls County, Texas. This remarkable venture will provide Meta, the dynamic technology firm with a strong social media presence, with a renewable energy source to power its operations in the region. As Meta continues their commitment to sustainable practices, the True North project will play a crucial role in supporting the company’s upcoming data center in neighboring Temple, marking their second data center facility in Texas.
Since 2020, Meta has been steadfast in their pursuit of using 100% renewable energy to sustain their global operations. Beyond the substantial environmental benefits, the construction and operation of True North will also generate meaningful economic opportunities. This project is expected to create over 200 local jobs, stimulating the surrounding community and enhancing regional employment prospects. Additionally, Avangrid projects that the solar farm will generate more than $40 million in property taxes during its estimated operational lifespan of 25 years, further contributing to the growth and infrastructure of the state.
As Avangrid’s first solar farm in Texas, True North holds immense promise. With commercial operations anticipated to commence in early 2025, this exemplifies the company’s seamless integration of renewable energy into their expanding portfolio.
