Commissioning activities have officially commenced at Revolution, a monumental battery energy storage project owned by Spearmint Energy, a prominent player in the renewable energy sector specializing in battery energy storage. Located within a thriving wind and solar hub within the Lower Colorado River Authority’s transmission network, Revolution is anticipated to become one of the largest battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in the United States.

The PowerTitan Series battery energy storage system, supplied by Sungrow Power Supply Co. Ltd., will serve as the backbone of Revolution. Utilizing lithium-iron phosphate battery cells and a cutting-edge liquid cooling system, this advanced technology promises increased efficiency in energy storage and distribution. The successful delivery and installation of the PowerTitan Series at Revolution not only mark a significant construction achievement but also signal a significant step forward for Spearmint in commencing commercial operations of the project.

Having broken ground in December 2022 in collaboration with Mortenson, a renowned power engineering, procurement, and construction contractor specializing in energy transmission and battery energy storage solutions, Spearmint has made tremendous progress on the Revolution project. Energized in June 2023, the project achieved mechanical completion in July and is now on track to commence full operations later this year.

The Revolution BESS project’s ability to seamlessly integrate renewable energy sources within the regional electricity grid serves as a critical milestone in promoting sustainability and reinforcing the grid’s reliability. By effectively storing and distributing clean energy, Revolution is poised to make a substantial and lasting impact on the renewable energy landscape.
