Lufthansa Technik PR and EDPR NA Distributed Generation Ink 21-Year PPA

EDPR NA Distributed Generation LLC (EDPR NA DG), a prominent renewable energy operator in North America, has solidified a groundbreaking partnership with Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico (LTPR), an esteemed aircraft maintenance company. Under a 21-year power purchase agreement (PPA), EDPR NA DG will deploy a 2-MW rooftop solar system at LTPR’s Aguadilla Facility. This collaborative effort speaks volumes about the commitment of both companies to fostering a cleaner and more resilient grid and transportation sector in Puerto Rico.

With the installation’s capability to supply approximately 95-100% of the site’s annual energy needs, LTPR’s maintenance, operations, and repair facility is poised to experience over $10 million in operating cost savings. Moreover, this state-of-the-art system is expected to generate approximately 3 million kWh annually, further solidifying its significance in the quest for sustainable energy solutions.

EDPR NA DG, a subsidiary of EDP Renewables North America LLC, has established itself as a trusted industry leader focused on providing dependable energy through distributed technologies. By overseeing the acquisition, construction, and operation of 290 MWp of distributed generation and community solar projects across North America, EDPR NA DG has amassed invaluable expertise in its pursuit of a reliable energy grid.

LTPR, a subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik (LHT), which is part of the renowned Lufthansa Group, becomes the first aviation company to collaborate with EDPR NA DG under this power purchase agreement. The partnership not only ensures greater control and predictability of future energy costs for Lufthansa Group but also initiates a significant reduction in emissions, aligning with the organization’s broader sustainability goals.

The project will be developed jointly by EDPR NA DG and Puerto Rico-based Carpe Diem Developers, marking the beginning of an exciting new era in distributed energy generation. David Denny, partner at Carpe Diem Developers, expresses enthusiasm for the project, stating, “LTPR has demonstrated commendable leadership through its local community engagement, and we are thrilled to contribute to the construction of this tangible symbol of their commitment to sustainability in Puerto Rico.”
