Renewable energy company RWE has recently achieved a significant milestone in its commitment to sustainable power generation by signing eight long-term utility-scale power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Dominion Energy Virginia. These PPAs cover seven solar projects in the state, combining to produce a remarkable 300 MW of renewable energy capable of generating more than 750,000 MWh of electricity.

Mark Noyes, the CEO of RWE Clean Energy, a subsidiary of RWE AG, expressed his confidence in the company’s ability to deliver top-notch solar energy projects while optimizing costs and tailoring solutions to meet customer needs. As a result, RWE is well-positioned to leverage its extensive experience in the industry.

The utility-scale project portfolio in Virginia comprises several notable solar installations. The Pleasant Hill Solar project, with a capacity of 20 MW, was successfully commissioned in the City of Suffolk this past April. The recently completed Watlington Solar project, with the same capacity, is located in Halifax County and commenced operations in June.

Furthermore, the Wythe County Solar project, boasting an impressive capacity of 75 MW, is currently under construction with an anticipated completion date in 2024. Additionally, RWE has plans for the development of three more solar projects: Switchgrass Solar (69 MW) in Suffolk County, 360 Solar (52 MW) in Chesterfield County, and Groves Solar (15 MW) in Westmoreland County. Another 15 MW solar project, known as Harrisonburg Solar, is also in development in Rockingham County.

Importantly, each of these projects has secured a PPA with Dominion Energy Virginia, the leading regulated utility company serving more than 2.8 million customers across the state. As the long-term owner-operator, RWE Clean Energy will play a crucial role in ensuring the ongoing success and optimal performance of each solar installation.

Collectively, this impressive portfolio of solar projects in Virginia will have the capacity to power over 70,000 homes, making a significant contribution to the state’s clean energy goals and reducing reliance on traditional fossil fuels.

By expanding its presence in the Old Dominion state, RWE is reinforcing its commitment to a sustainable future by delivering substantial renewable energy capacity while meeting the growing demand for clean and reliable power.
